Chapter Eight

NO DAY should ever begin without a healthy dose of coffee, and Eric saw no reason for today to be any different. He stood, leaning one hip against the counter, wearing only his boxers, preparing a pot of coffee. While he ground beans and filled the maker with water, he kept a sharp ear out for signs of life from Jay.

So far Jay had remained reasonable and level-headed after each one of their scenes, but they’d also done nothing as intense as they’d done last night. The previous night had also been the first time Jay had been truly restrained, and Eric wanted to be certain there were no unwanted aftereffects. He really had no idea how Jay would be this morning or what to expect, but he was determined to be prepared for anything.

The fact Eric had been able to so easily maneuver Jay around after untying him led him to think Jay’s placid and relaxed personality would prevail. Eric had learned to never assume, however. The flip side of that was, Jay had been pretty out of it afterward and dropped off to sleep quickly with no sort of discussion between them. Eric would have preferred a chance to talk a bit and feel out Jay’s emotional state, but it was obvious that wouldn’t happen last night. He wasn’t sure he’d had enough working brain cells for much conversation beyond a grunt anyway.

Another few minutes and Eric heard the distinct sound of the shower going on. It was loud enough that Eric realized Jay had left the bathroom door open. Not exactly an invitation but not a request for privacy either. Leaving the coffee maker to brew his java, Eric walked quietly through the house to the master bedroom. On the way through, he collected the toys they’d used last night and tossed them into the dresser drawer, shutting it softly.

Eric stopped in the bathroom doorway, leaned inside and said, “Hey, morning. How are you?”

Jay peeked around the shower curtain and smiled at him. “Sort of lonely in here.”

Already out of his boxers, Eric was across the small bathroom in a few strides. Without hesitation he stepped into the shower and under the hot water. The shower wasn’t really big enough for sex. The two times they’d tried had ended up with more bruising and bumping than pleasure, and they’d given up pretty quickly. Eric did enjoy the slick feel of Jay’s wet, soaped-up skin, the closeness of them washing each other, and was delighted when offered the opportunity to share the shower with Jay.

Almost immediately Jay’s warm body was pressed against Eric’s. Winding one arm around Jay’s trim waist, Eric felt a surge of protectiveness course through him. The fact he could encircle Jay almost completely with his arm always made him feel that way. Dipping his head, he pressed his mouth to Jay’s, slipping his tongue along Jay’s lips a few times before gliding it into Jay’s mouth. Jay’s arms came up and around his
